About

CLEEN Foundation (formerly known as Center for Law Enforcement Education) is a non-governmental organization established in 1998 with the mission of promoting public safety, security and accessible justice through empirical research, legislative advocacy, demonstration programmes and publications, in partnership with government, civil society and private sectors. The Organization’s mission has largely been carried out through a strategy of building successful civil-state partnerships in justice reform. CLEEN is valued by the demand side, trusted by the supply side, and recognized by the Nigerian security sector due to its proven and visible positive impact on police and policing in Nigeria. It is acknowledged by international partners, government ministries, departments and agencies, civil society organizations, and beneficiaries as an organization that has contributed immensely to public safety and security, justice reform and accessible justice through the tools of research, awareness creation and capacity building for security agencies, civil society groups and stakeholders at the grassroots.  CLEEN has the history of engaging in extensive and useful research that can be easily interpreted by laymen; from the findings of these research, evidence-based reports have been published and extensively disseminated. As an integrity driven organization and a center for education in law enforcement, CLEEN has a history in delivering quality trainings and capacity building programs for law enforcement agencies as well as to critical stakeholders within the security and justice sector.

Resources for CLEEN’s programming comes from a variety of sources, but largely from international foundations and donor agencies such as Ford Foundation, MacArthur Foundation, Open Society Institute, Foreign, Commonwealth, Foreign and Development Office (FCDO), British Council, United Nations Women etc. CLEEN is always looking to widen its funding and is planning to work with some domestic and international corporations to develop their contributions to community-based projects. Institutional and core support funding are also welcomed to assist CLEEN’s organizational development. CLEEN Foundation is in special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations in New York, United States of America since June 2020, and has observer status with the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights based in Banjul, The Gambia.  The organization has won the following awards:
